The Curse of a Goddess

Ovid correctly guessed that this monster had not always been this way. Once a beautiful maiden, the jealous aspiration of many suitors, she was struck by the hatred of a goddess.

Athena turned the maiden’s golden hair to serpents and made a face so terrible to behold, the mere sight of it would strike an onlooker to stone.

Perseus it was, with his winged sandals and mirrored shield that finally struck her down. By using her reflection in his shield, he cleanly lopped off her head, thus ending her cursed life.

In that moment, she was released. Of her physical self, only the monster remained, but her spirit flew free.

Once again, simply a woman, running on the wind.
